Keeping with last Friday’s Face-to-Face theme, this week I am looking at movies dealing with robots taking over the world and androids wanting to become human. The last movie on the list is in its own category.

  • Terminator (1984)

We all know what this one’s about, so I won’t bore you telling you what you know, but feel free to look at the trailer!

  • Bicentennial Man (1999)

*Stars Robin Williams! From  This film follows the ‘life’ and times of the lead character, an android who is purchased as a household robot programmed to perform menial tasks. Within a few days the Martin family realizes that they don’t have an ordinary droid as Andrew begins to experience emotions and creative thought. In a story that spans two centuries, Andrew learns the intricacies of humanity while trying to stop those who created him from destroying him.

  • A.I. (2001)

* Stars Haley Joel Osment and Jude Law! Directed by Steven Spielberg! This story is similar to Bicentennial Man, and very reminiscent of Pinocchio.

  • I, Robot (2004)

*Stars Will Smith! From IIn the year 2035 a techno-phobic cop investigates a crime that may have been perpetrated by a robot, which leads to a larger threat to humanity.

  • Simone (2002)

*Stars Al Pacino! From A producer’s film is endangered when his star walks off, so he decides to digitally create an actress to substitute for the star, becoming an overnight sensation that everyone thinks is a real person. He markets her as such and after pressure to be seen live, he decides to kill her off, and is charged for her murder!
